Evergreen shrub/tree with glossy green leaves, Zone 8, scented flowers borne during spring. Grow in moist fertile soil in full sun to partial shade keep protected from cold winds. The leaves are used fresh or dried and as an ingredient for 'Bouquet Garni' Bay leaves commonly used in stews and soups. A tea can be made from the dried leaves. Has a long history of medicinal uses. May require protection during winter in the UK. RHS Award of Garden Merit
