Feeder application
recommendations for the Nemasys®
Range

Recently completed trials have shown that Nemasys and Nemaslug can be successfully and easily applied using a garden feeder – great news for gardeners fighting slugs, vine weevil, chafer grubs and leather jackets
Using the quality garden feeders listed below, connected to a garden hose, means you can achieve an efficient and even application as well as making sure the nematodes are washed well into the soil, especially important for lawn products.
So now you can apply nematodes by watering can or using a garden hose system – whichever you find more convenient. Our step-by-step guide shows how easy it is.
Instructions for Miracle-Gro and Phostrogen garden hose feeder application of Nemasys and Nemaslug
These instructions are applicable to all pack sizes up to 100m2 in the Nemasys Home & Garden range (excl Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer 12m2 pack and Nemasys Caterpillar and Codling Moth Killer). However, please note the different application timings in point 4. when applying to lawns.
· Wash the feeder through with water to ensure it is clean.
· Add entire contents of the pack to the bowl of the feeder. Then fill the bowl with water and stir to mix thoroughly. Attach the hose.
· Taking care to keep the feeder in an upright position, apply evenly to the whole of the area for a timed period, using a side-to-side motion to keep the nematodes well mixed. During this time most of the nematodes will have been applied.
- Phostrogen Handy Feeder - for 8 minutes
- Variable spray Miracle-Gro Feeder with spray set to ‘flat’ – for 5 minutes
- Fixed spray Miracle-Gro Feeder – for 8 minutes
· Treat the same area again for a further 8 minutes (or 16 minutes for lawn applications) to apply the remaining nematodes as well as to make sure they are adequately watered in. Applications to lawns require more water to ensure the nematodes are washed through the grass thatch.
· Adhering strictly to the application timings will ensure that any remaining colour in the bowl will be due to inert carrier only and that you have performed an even application.
· This new method provides a simple and effective application, however, it is important to follow the instructions exactly to obtain even coverage.
· Only the following high quality feeders are recommended for use with this method;
o Phostrogen® Handy Feeder
o Miracle-Gro® Feeder
Phostrogen is a registered trademark of pbi Home & Garden Ltd
Miracle-Gro is a registered trademark of The Scotts Company
Nemasys and Nemaslug are registered trademarks of Becker Underwood
NB: When applying to pots it is still better to use the watering can method as it would be difficult to judge the area and timing.
Instructions for Superspray garden hose feeder application of Nemaslug
These instructions only apply to Nemaslug 40m2 and 100m2 in the Nemasys Home & Garden range. However, please note that the Superspray application is only applicable to Nemaslug, the rest of the range cannot be applied with this type of hose end feeder
· Wash the feeder through with water to ensure it is clean.
· Add half the contents of the 40m2 pack or a quarter of the 100m2 pack to the bowl of the feeder. Then fill the bowl with water and stir to mix thoroughly. Attach the hose.
· Taking care to keep the feeder in an upright position, apply evenly to the area to be treated using a side-to-side motion to keep the nematodes well mixed. This should take about 5 minutes, depending upon water pressure.
· Repeat these steps on the other areas of ground to be treated using the remaining portions of the Nemaslug pack
· Treat the same area again for a further 10 minutes (or 16 minutes for lawn applications) to make sure they are adequately watered in. Applications to lawns require more water to ensure the nematodes are washed through the grass thatch.
· This method provides a simple and effective application, however, it is important to follow the instructions exactly to ensure the nematodes reach the pests.

INSTRUCTIONS for Watering Can
Applications
For Large size (commercial size)
(Normal size comes complete with instructions)
Please print or save this page as large size Nemaslug occasionally comes without instruction.
One pack is sufficient to treat 100sq meters (120 sq. yards) of soil or compost
Product description
Each pack of Nemaslug contains approximately 30 million microscopic parasitic
nematodes. These organisms are found naturally in the soil and give curative
control of slugs. Avoid treating soil close to ponds as Nemaslug may reduce the
population of beneficial water snails. Nemaslug is harmless to children, pets
and wildlife.
Storage
Nemaslug must be stored in a fridge at around 5°C, but do not freeze. The
product must be used by the expiry date.
Optimum application conditions
The area to be treated should be moist. If necessary, the area should be watered prior to application
Apply Nemaslug in the evening
Avoid applications to heavy clay soil
Nemaslug works best in soil temperatures 5-20°C, do not apply to frozen soil
Ideally Nemaslug should be used within two days of delivery
Use the entire contents at one time
Directions for use
Empty and wash all the pack contents into a clean graduated bucket and stir until all lumps are dispersed
Top up the water in the bucket to the 8 litre (2 gallon mark)
Stir well and then take 0.2 litres of this stock solution and put into a clean watering can fitted with a coarse rose
Add water to the watering can to make up to 5 litres (1 gallon) mark
Apply the Nemaslug solution to 2.5 sq metres (3 sq yards) of moist soil or compost.. Apply within 1 hour of mixing, stirring the mixture from time to time to prevent settling.
Repeat with the remaining stock solution ensuring the liquid is stirred well prior to use
If you have a 10 litre watering can, double the volumes and area treated to save time.
What to expect
Within one week of treatment slugs will have stopped feeding. Nemaslug should
remain effective for six weeks after application. Most slugs will die
underground within two weeks of Nemaslug treatment so you may not see dead slugs
on the soil surface. For plants that need prolonged protection a second
treatment may be necessary.
